East Gippsland Rail Trail Weekend Ride
Friday 21st - Sunday 23rd November 2008
It's time to book your rooms !
The relentless march of time means that our Annual expedition down to Gippsland to ride the East Gippsland Rail Trail is now only three months away. This is one of the highlights of our cycling year and participants now have the option to either ride from Bairnsdale to Nowa Nowa (about 60 km) or complete the much longer ride all the way to Orbost (about 100km).
We will be driving down to Bairnsdale on Friday afternoon and staying overnight at the Best Western Colonial Motor Inn (phone 5152 1988). On Saturday morning it's up early to get on the bikes and start heading East along the trail. After completing the first transit we transfer by car ro Lakes Entrance where we will be staying at the Cunningham Shore Motor Inn (phone 5155 2960). It's right on the beach and a great place to chill out or enjoy some beach walks.
On Sunday you can either complete the return ride back to Bairnsdale or simply rest on your laurels and enjoy Lakes Entrance. Since both motels are relatively small it is essential that all those wanting to participate contact the motels NOW to make your bookings. Make sure you tell them that you are part of the GHOST RIDERS group to get the discounted rate.
We would encourage all our riders to be a part of this weekend of fun and friendship - so make your bookings NOW. Partners are also warmly invited to join in the fun.
Wangaratta to Bright Rail Trail Weekend Late Feb 2009
We will be driving up on Friday afternoon and staying overnight at the Best Western Warby Lodge Motor Inn in Wangaratta (Ph 03 5721 8433).
On Saturday morning we set off early and ride the sealed rail trail through to Everton (25km) before turning north and riding up the hill to Beechworth for morning tea. After coffee we roll back down again, before turning left at the bottom to continue over the Gap to Myrtleford for lunch in the park. After lunch it's back on the bikes for the final section to Bright where we will be staying at the Bright High Country Motor Inn (03 57 551 244 ).
After a shower and a change of clothes we go out to dinner at the Cozy Kangaroo Restaurant in Bright. What a perfect way to end a hard day in the saddle.
On the next day most riders will choose to ride all the way back along the trail to Wangaratta, before enjoying a final celebratory coffee and cake. Then it's back in the cars for the long drive back to Melbourne.
Bookings are essential for this weekend and I would encourage all our members and friends to join us.
